Is there really such thing as government grants for home repair,and such?

My husband and I are looking into buying a fixer up home and we have heard alot about government grants that help families with various tasks, is it true or just another scam?

Inquire if your home qualifies for the Steamline K program.

I had a babysitter who lived in the "worst" part of town, and she said she knew lots of people who got home repair grants. One person even used it to buy a hot tub!

Of course, that was before nine eleven and in Oregon, so not sure if there are any left or any in your state.
